Five Horrible Things that Your Relocation Service should not Have

I was initially given an estimate of $1500 to relocate my household products from New Jersey to Orlando. It cost me $4500 finally. It took more than a fortnight for the relocation service provider to arrange the move and when it did get accomplished, some of valuables were missing or broken.

To prevent you from facing these horrible things, bigmanmovers.com, a professional relocation company in Orlando recommend you to thoroughly search movers on the Better Business Bureau (BBB) and other reliable sources. You should not go along with any cheap relocation provider available online as terrible things can happen to you.

Below are 5 of the most horrible things that you may experience with the relocation service of disreputable companies.

1. Get estimates over phone

Having a short conversation over phone and getting a moving quote may seem ok with you but it is not likely to get honoured in future.

The Federal and State Motor Department of Transportation that controls interstate and intercity moves sees risk in online or phone estimates. These estimates are basically treated as fraud or unreliable.
Though such estimates are technically viable, but the AMSA group and Better Business Bureau would like consumers to have their in-house estimates. They emphasize that you should collect at least 5-6 quotes before selecting a relocation service.

2. Increase prices once they come to the site

My bad experience in relocation service led me to start consumer awareness. I know that unreliable relocation companies try to woo you with a low quote over the phone but increase their rates when they come to visit your house and take a note of your belongings. They may tell you that your items are more than their expectation and take up more hours and will make them use more professionals for accomplishing the task.

By this time, you may be approaching your moving date and don’t have other options.

3. Turn up late

Movers should provide relocation service including packing and transportation of your belongings. It should agree to

  • Your moving time and delivery date
  • Accomplish the whole job within given period of time
  • No last minute extension of your specified date or time of move. It should offer service on time and ensure the best possible satisfaction to customers.
Suspicious movers may not abide by these rules.

4. Delay in delivery

Problems related to delivery may happen after execution of your relocation.

When I was moving to Orland for better employment, I had to request my mover for more than two months before getting my items delivered at my new rental house. My relocating agencies insisted that I should wait for a few more days as their vehicle got damaged and needed repairing.

According to the AMSA, there is a flexibility of 2-3 days in each relocation service contract but not months or weeks to cater to delays occurring due to traffic or weather condition.

5. Broken or damaged furniture

My moving story did not finish when all my items finally delivered at my new home. I was shocked to find my couch scratched and dining chair broken. The relocation service professionals needed to treat my belongings with great care and give damage free delivery.

An antique clock that was with my family for about a century was damaged severely. I was really upset with such type of relocation service and would like you to face the same.
